Biography

Jenna Marie McDowell was born on June 21, 1976, in Hayward, California.  From the very beginning, Jenna exuded a nurturing and warm energy: a quality that was felt by all who knew her.  After graduating from Brigham Young University in 1997, Jenna married her high school sweetheart, Mike, and together they had three children: Ryan, Stella, and Norah.  As a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, service to others was always an integral part of her life.  From volunteering at her kids' elementary schools to giving back to non-profit organizations to leading young women's groups at her church, Jenna was a true woman of service.

In 2010, Jenna was diagnosed with stage lll breast cancer.  She immediately began intensive treatment to fight the disease, including multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation.  She often didn't feel well, but it never kept her from her commitment to serving others.  It wasn't out of the ordinary for her to head straight to the school or church to work on community projects after receiving treatment all morning.  Her commitment to service only seemed to become stronger as the years went on.  Even in 2015, when her cancer diagnosis was elevated to stage lV metastatic.
